There are many things you can do to make the your Mac run faster, one is upgrading the internal hard drive, you can even change it in to an SSD that will for sure make it access your files faster.
One other way is to upgrade the RAM in the unit. More RAM will make things much snappier and is one of the quickes ways to speed things up in the short time.

I just upgraded my iMac to 32GB of memory, yes Thirty Two GB!
Why? well first thing, why not but on a serious note, it runs much faster and gives me room to run as many apps as I want without it going into a spasm every time I want to do something.
As most of my clients know, I also do other things on my Mac other than just ‘work’ I also use it for my music productions, coding, building websites and even video editing, so the RAM (geheugen in Dutch) comes in really handy, and it’s VERY cheap these days, so there is no reason why you wouldn’t.
